History

Settlers began to come to McKenzie sometime in the early 1800's. Before that time it was inhabited by Chickasaw Indians.  Town was officially established in 1867.  The towns name originated from a family name who previously owned land where the two railroad systems crossed.  The town developed quickly after the railway system was complete.
